NYC Sightseeing, Attractions, and Tours: Brooklyn BridgeTour Description
History - past and present - comes alive for you on this walking tour in Lower Manhattan that visits areas of grand 19th century vision and 21st century heroism.

Ground Zero, the site of the former World Trade Center Twin Towers, is a monument to both tragedy and courage. Here you’ll witness the progress of the World Trade Center rebuilding efforts and stand on the actual floor of the original World Trade Center. You’ll see the Bronze FDNY 9-11 Memorial Wall, a 56-foot long bronze sculpture that shows firefighters battling the smoldering towers, located on the side of New York City's famed fire station "10 House," the former Reily Hose No. 10 firehouse.

The tour continues past St. Paul’s Chapel, New York’s only surviving pre-Revolutionary church; Trinity Church, where Alexander Hamilton and Robert Fulton are buried; the Neo-Gothic Woolworth Building, the world's tallest building from 1913-1930; and 200-year old City Hall and City Hall Park to the east side of Lower Manhattan and the world-famous Brooklyn Bridge.

The bridge, opened in 1883, united the cities of Brooklyn and Manhattan, forging the bond that resulted in the unification, along with Queens, Staten Island and the Bronx, into what is now New York City. So monumental was the task of building the Brooklyn Bridge, and so intimidating was the structure to 19th century New Yorkers, that it took P.T. Barnum and a herd of 21 elephants to prove the bridge’s stability!

You’ll learn about the bridge’s rich history and see NYC landmarks from its breathless vantage points as you walk about ½ way across the span. Photo ops abound on this "Great Avenue" across the East River.

This 4-hour tour begins in a convenient midtown Manhattan location and is fully escorted by a licensed New York City tour guide who will accompany you by subway (fare included) to Lower Manhattan. The tour concludes just a short walk away from Canal Street and Chinatown, a perfect place to have lunch or go shopping!

2009 Tour Schedule
